UseYourDomain

GoDaddy

Yes you can use your own domain name with Shopify. When setting up your Shopify account it by default creates a subdomain which looks like the following: http://sitefromscratch.myshopify.com. It's always something.myshopify.com. This is an address that can be marketed and used itself or you can go and get your own domain name somewhere else.

I recommend GoDaddy if you need a domain. The reason why is because they are a big company that has security. If you buy from some little reseller of domains names then what happens if that person stops doing their thing then that domain name becomes a problem. Often times it becomes very difficult to get anything changed with it. If that's not reason enough to use GoDaddy then the price should get you. It's only $8.95 a year for a domain with GoDaddy.

1and1

I also recommend 1and1 if you are just looking to register for a year. They are one of the biggest hosts in the world and their control panel is a pretty easy control panel to use. A domain at 1and1 will run you about $5.99 a year.

I've decided to create a video tutorial on how to get your domain pointed to Shopify at GoDaddy and also at 1and1. There are a lot of options, and I may do some more, but I figure a majority of people are using GoDaddy for their domain host and also 1and1.
